REV. J. ALEX COBLENTZ

2008–PRESENT 

Alex was born September 30, 1952, in Anapolis, Goias, Brazil, the son of Paul John and Adele Coblentz, missionaries to Brazil with the Presbyterian Church US. He attended boarding school in Brazil and graduated from the Stony Brook School in NY, 1970. He has a B.A. from Davidson College, 1974; spent his junior year (1972- 73) abroad in Montpellier, France; has an M.Div. from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary, South Hamilton, MA, 1978; and pursued doctoral studies at Reformed Theological Seminary, Charlotte, NC, and at Columbia International University, Columbia, SC. 

He was married November 30, 1974 to Mary Nell Cavin of Huntersville, NC, and has three children: Nathan, David and Susannah and 6 grandchildren. Mary Nell has a degree in Christian Education from Pfeiffer University in NC and serves as the Ministry Coordinator for the church. Her support of the educational and outreach programs is amazing. 

Alex taught Bible, English, French and Spanish at Charlotte Christian School, Charlotte, NC (1978-81); The Stony Brook School, Stony Brook, NY (1981-86); North Hills Christian School, Salisbury, NC (1996- 2004), and served as Principal at the Westminster Catawba Christian School, Rock Hill, SC (2004-06). He also served as pastor of Back Creek Presbyterian Church, Mt. Ulla, NC, (1986-1999), as interim pastor at Living Waters ARP, Lake Wylie, SC, (2006-07); and at Hepzibah ARP in Bessemer City, NC, (2007- 2008) before accepting a call to pastor the French Camp Presbyterian Church in June, 2008. 

Alex especially enjoys preaching, teaching and missions, as well as art, playing the guitar, woodworking, and fishing. He was instrumental in the construction of the Living Stones Building and remodeling the old Fellowship Hall, completed in 2021. Much of the interior woodwork as well as the exterior stonework was crafted by Alex.
